Fractals are the invention of Benoit Mandelbrot. A pole, but with French (and American, too!) provenance.
Many years ago, I wrote a program (on a 286-12 PCAT, in Turbo Pascal) that allowed you to zoom into and explore the Mandelbrot Set. I learned more about complex numbers ( was introduced to them first in Grade 13), and about the limitations as a programmer. Needless to say, I didn’t become a programmer when I grew up.
We live, in the Pigalle neighbourhood of the 9th arrondissement, at the top of a six story building. In Canada, we’d be on the 7th floor. Whichever metric, we are six lights of stairs up. Looking down, I am reminded of fractals.
