Where's Teddy Now?

Itinerarius

From 1432 ( so Colón could have used it), derived from Latin (what else?) itinerarium, meaning “account of a journey”. Ultimately from iter, or journey.

In Dutch, routebeschrijving, French: itinéraire, German: Reiseroute, Italian and Spanish, itinerario.

Add “word geek” to the list. As it may, we’re going to the Maritimes.

Dimes

We fly out of London (Ontari-ari-ari-o, so don’t get excited), on August 1, towards Halifax, where we spend three days putzing around. Pier 21 (apparently landfall for my family from Germany – I hadn’t known that), the waterfront, some baby-friendly pubs (Alexander Keith’s birthday), and whatever else we can rustle up.

We’re camped out right downtown, at the Holiday Inn (how domestic, eh?), but not right on the waterfront. The difference $50 a night buys you.

On the 4th, we head up over to Prince Edward Island by ferry, for two nights. Not nearly enough time to see anything, but enough to give us a taste. I’ll be happy to see a bit of the capital and some of the red beaches and sand it’s famous for.

We’re staying (at the recommendation of the Outlaws) at the Meadow View Cottages, at $115 a night. We’ll then take the Confederation Bridge out, paying the lesser of the two tolls.

From PE Island, it’s out towards Truro and the Bay of Fundy region. Here’s what Lonely Planet has to say about Truro:

A quick look at the map explains why Truro is known as the hub of Nova Scotia. While you can’t avoid passing by, spend as little time here as possible. Despite some redevelopment of the older part of town around Prince and Inglis Sts., Truro most resembles an interminable mall.

Damn. Should have read about it before booking.

But we did want to be around to top of the province, and do some snooping around the shoreline of Fundy. Advocate Harbour and Parsboro are also on the list here. We’ve booked a bed and breakfast for three nights at $85 a night, and luckily, it’s outside of Truro proper.

From here, it’s down to the Digby area, where we’ll be standing in (well, Ti will be as a bride’s maid) for Adrienne and Ty’s wedding. The “kick in the ass” that got us out into these parts. From here, we’ll be exploring the lighthouse coast, perhaps as far up as Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove, if we hadn’t yet seen if from Halifax. And we’ll definitely step foot in Kejimkujik National Park.

We’re due to spend four nights here at the Mountain Gap Inn, where the reception will be happening.

Finally (finally!) we’re off to see Uncle Jimmy. Ti’s uncle Jimmy Sollazzo, up Cape Breton way. Four nights up there will get us to Louisbourg (one of my “top 100” travel goals), and along the Cabot Trail. Not to mention Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

I’ll have to post separately to list the NPs and UNESCO sites we’ll be happening upon.

After a few nights with Uncle Jimmy, we drive leisurely-ly (as in, in a leaisurely fashion) back to Halifax for our 2000h flight back to Calgary. That happens on August 17.

In time for Shaun and Corinna’s stag/staggette.

Woohoo.
