Where's Teddy Now?

Crop

Another case for an upgrade to a high mega-pixelage camera, and a post similar to this one.

To set the stage, I was here yesterday:

The Bow River lies just a hundred meters from the doorstep of our next house, in the neighbourhood of Inglewood in downtown Cowtopia. A few minutes walk along the bike path brings you to the pedestrian foot bridge that crosses the Bow, and leads to Centenary Park, site of my favourite disc golf course. These photos were taken a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, thereabouts.

I also snapped this photo; a shot under the foot bridge, looking south. The Sun is behind the shadow of the bridge, the sky is a painful blue, and there are a few clouds which, when the lens is stopped down, show some detail. It’s not a great photo, which is why I describe it rather than simply post it to Flickr. My hard drive is for mass storage of “maybo” shots, not FLickr.

But I did spend some time playing with crops of that original phooto, to the point where I had six that I thought I liked. This one’s not so terribly bad:

Under the Bridge

It’s got some nice symmetry (which pleases my eye), some deep blue, and some nice patterns going on. But it’s too dark, caused by my desire to both lose the detail in the underside of the bridge and bolden out the sky. And what looks like a hair in the bottom left is actually a crack in the ice. Distracting enough to be distracting. Enough.

This one below is my favourite of the evening’s cropping efforts. Totally different (in a thematic sense) from the original shot).

Under the Bridge 4

With the crop, though, it comes in at less than one megapixel. I think I can make a wallet size out of that one.
