Where's Teddy Now?

Holiday

The timing will be tough, but we need to fit a getaway in, La Fille et moi ™. (Et la bébé aussi). It needs to fit in sometime between the finishing of Inglewood (five weeks and counting) and my return to the ‘ole eight to six, which is at the end of March.

Such got me to thinking about a long simmering sampler idea of mine, having to do with travel songs. Actually, what really got me thinking about the sampler was hearing the New Pornographers on shuffle. From Challengers, I picked up on some lyrics that went something like:

Yes a heart will always go one step too far
Come the morning and the four corners I see
What the moral of the back story could be
    Come with me, go places

Which led me to actually start the beginnings of my travel sampler, by creating a playlist (intrigueingly entitled “travel”), and dropping songs into it.

I noted that I didn’t have the original Holiday in Spain, from Counting Crows’ Hard Candy (I had the live version from the New Amsterdam CD), which I do like, but do not prefer for this particular project. (I actually do have it, buried on one of my backup hard drives, but I was lazy). So onto LimeWire I hop to grab another copy.

Wherein I discover a version – a duet – with someone/thing called Bløf. Bløf.

It’s rather amazing, and part of a morning well wasted.

Adam, oh Adam. You are so brilliant, and had so much potential. Why then am I talking in the past tense? Where are you now, my son. Hop to it.

(And as a totally unrelated aside, if it weren’t such a long trip – eight or nine hours – I would bring the girls to Barcelona, one of my favourite cities in the whole wide world.)
