The Virgin Music Festival makes a stop in Calgary this weekend. We snapped up tix as soon as the came on, planning this to be Ellie’s first festival experience. In mere minutes we shall leave.
Headliners tonight are Stone Temple Pilots, or STP for those in the shizzle. Yes, they are the consumate rip off artists (Pearl Jam, Sound Garden), and yeh, they’re sort of long in the tooth (last album, 2001), but they are sort of classic of my age.
They are not the highlights of the weekend, though. I’d count Flaming Lips, Matt Good (back with a band, which we haven’t seen for a few years) and The Tragically Hip for that honour. And Corb Lund, whom I’ve only ever caught fleeting visages of.
I’m hoping that this will be a good experience for us and the La Petite Fille ™. It seems like a cool organization, and even though they don’t allow reentry (and we must leave to take Ellie back to baby sitters both nights) a quick email to the Brandi, an onsite director, smoothed the way for us to do so.
That’s classy.
Lots of photos to come. And, as Barb would say, lots of musical goodness too.
