Birthday night (mine, 43) and a quiet night it is. Ti had asked what I’d wanted for my birthday meal, and I said grilled cheese and soup. Comfort food.
But to complement that, I walked on over to the local wine boutique (which I can see from our back windows) and picked me up a bottle of birthday wine. A Pinot Noir, my single favourite varietal.
A $30 bottle of Oregon: Amity Vineyard‘s 2006 Willamette Valley Pinot. Wonderful stuff. If you’ve ever wondered what caramel on the nose smells like, this would be it. I called Amity directly today and found out that the 06 vintage is highly sought after and sold out. I’ll be going back and buying whatever’s left tomorrow.
Now of course, a grilled cheese sandwich just doesn’t cut it for anyone’s birthday. So tomorrow night, we’re off to try a new winebar, the one in Kensington cleverly called Winebar Kensington. Tom Firth on our local CBC program rates it as good, but FFWD gives it an outstanding review.
After that, we’re off to friends who are hosting a CD release party in their home for a local band, F&M.
We anticipate a good evening.
